Make your own natural cold sore oil with 2 of my favourite essential oils for cold sores!
Cold sores are unfortunately very common. There are plenty of over-the-counter medications but I prefer holistic natural care, and love to make my own blends such as this one for cold sores.
In my experience, these two oils can really help prevent cold sores, and shorten the duration of a cold sore if it does come up: Sandalwood and Melissa.
Sandalwood is gentle on skin, calms anxiety (like magic!), supports immunity, and is a wonderful antiviral oil. And Melissa, is a “secret weapon”when it comes to cold sores. It is an amazing virus-fighter, especially for the cold sore virus.
This is a blend you can make in a 10 ml glass roller-top bottle, or a 1 oz (30 ml) glass jar.
Natural Cold Sore Treatment Oil Recipe
- 10 ml Jojoba Oil or Coconut Oil (melted)
- 7 drops Sandalwood (Santalum album)
- 2 drops Melissa (Melissa officinalis)
Melissa essential oil is very potent and has a strong aroma. Just 2 drops are enough for our blend! If you use the jojoba, try the roller-top bottle. If you use the coconut oil, you’ll probably find the glass jar or small tin more convenient.
If you start feeling that familiar tingle-tickle on your lip, use a dab of this oil right on the spot. And if you do happen to get a cold sore, you can use a dab of it on the blister, too.
I don’t often turn to Sandalwood essential oil for my blends, for the simple reason that Sandalwood is not truly environmentally sustainable. I like to reserve it for special occasions when it can really shine. This is one of those times.
